The Mitre is a not for profit enterprise which has transformed a former public house to a 'public home'. A place where people of any faith or no faith can find a homely, safe environment with a friendly welcome. We seek to offer outrageous hospitality through staff and volunteers, some of whom we are supporting to gain experience of work and of being part of a team. Any surplus income we make goes to the STN Trust to support their charitable work locally, nationally and internationally.

The Mitre is open 7 days a week and for four days until

Volunteers are always welcome to join the team of staff and volunteers. Volunteers will need to have a commitment to offering Outrageous Hospitality to Mitre users. As a volunteer you will work alongside placements from the STN Trust and others who we are supporting to gain experience of the world of work. You will also have the joy of knowing that profits from the Mitre are passed to STN Trust to use for their charitable purposes.

Training will be given on working in the bar, restaurant  and kitchen and in food hygiene. No prior experience is required.

  • Serve hot and cold drinks from the bar

  • Serve food from kitchen to table

  • Clear tables and wash up

  • Work on the till

  • Assisting in food preparation and cooking

  • Administration, ordering and finance

  • Event organisation

  • Maintaining the bar, customer and food preparation area

Mitre volunteers come both from the church and the community. All join the Mitre team who find fun, fulfilment and reward from being part of this exciting enterprise. Church members are encouraged to understand the link between 'outrageous hospitality' and following the example of Jesus.
